Verucchio is a medieval village located in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy, specifically in the province of Rimini.
Verucchio is situated on a hill in the lower Marecchia Valley, bordering Montefeltro and the Republic of San Marino. The extraordinary nature of the place has shaped its history, as it has been exploited as a natural fortress since the Iron Age.
The village is known for its Rocca Malatestiana (Malatesta Fortress) and Archaeological Museum.
Verucchio is also recognized for its historical significance as the birthplace of Mastin Vecchio Malatesta da Verucchio, the founder of the Malatesta dynasty. It was an important center of Villanovan civilization as well.
Verucchio’s historic center is small but charming, offering breathtaking views of the Val Marecchia panorama. It can be visited throughout the year and combined with a day trip to nearby San Marino.
